Natural ways to deal with stress
Modern times and the almost unbearable tempo of life make us constantly stressed out and tense.
Coping with constant stress can be very challenging and time-consuming, but it is of great importance! Stress build-up can cause many serious health issues, so you should always try to find some time for yourself, no matter how busy you are.
Nature can be your ally in dealing with stress. Just find a way that suits you the most! Here are some ideas on what you can do to relax and prevent further stressing out.
1) Take a break
First and probably the most important - you should try taking a break whenever you can. Step away from the situation and take a deep breath; you may create an opportunity to take a different approach to the problem. Moving your body away from the source of the stress can give you time and space to recollect your emotions and thoughts.
2) Nature knows best
Going on a simple walk by the river or doing some gardening can be very relaxing. As we interact with nature, our level of endorphins and dopamine rise, eating up the adrenalin we accumulated during the stress episode. In addition, sunlight and fresh air are great for the body and soul and give instant grounding and relaxation.
3) Move your body
Physically moving away from your surroundings and going outside for a walk, run, or even a swim sounds pretty hard when you feel drained out, but you will feel much better when you finish. Physical activity lowers your body's stress hormone levels, improves sleep quality, and helps the release of endorphins.
4) Self-care
When we are in stress mode, sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. Making time to eat healthy meals, staying hydrated, regulating sleep schedules, and nurturing ourselves are the best ways to start stress management. For example, having a warm bath after a long day or a cup of tea while reading a chapter from a favorite book can help you relax before bed. Listening to relaxing sounds or taking time to meditate can also be very helpful; the key is trusting the process.
5) Reconnect with people
If you cannot see your friends and family in person, try talking to them online. Having a sense of belonging and seeing yourself as a part of a community boosts oxytocin levels, relieving the body's stress. Feel free to choose who you spend time with, as other people's energies can easily influence yours.
Bonus advice: if you feel overwhelmed and stressed out for a while and nothing seems to work for you, it is not a bad idea to visit your doctor and ask for medical advice. Listen to your body and the signals it sends. Try finding a relaxing method that works best for you. Sometimes you can feel better after a run. Sometimes you prefer staying in and watching a movie by yourself. There's no wrong choice; give yourself time and space so that you can start feeling better.
